WHAT WE DO

EDUCATION

An education is a basic right that many of us take for granted. Right now, 93 million children of primary school age don’t have access to schooling, 41 million of these are in sub-Saharan Africa. Africa is by a substantial amount, the region worst affected by lack of education. In Benin in 2004, only 52% of children that enrolled in grade 1 reached grade 5. Adult literacy rates in Africa have been reported as low as 25.7% in Chad.

trainachild builds schools and provides a free eduction to the community. This gives communities the skills they needs to break the cycle of poverty.

AIDS

Today, over 15 million children across have lost one or both parents to AIDS. Africa as a whole has over 12 million AIDS orphans. If what the Bible says is true – that the religion God’s accepts as pure is to look after the widows and the orphans, we need to ask ourselves what we are doing to help this crisis?

Education isn’t just about literacy and numeracy. It’s also HIV/AIDS and drug awareness, We provide AIDS awareness education to the children throughout school, and run courses for the community ensuring that people know all they can to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. trianachild schools also provide training on health and family planning, income generation skills, as well as an understanding of civil rights and laws and environmental stewardship.

MALNUTRITION

Every year, there are almost 10 million deaths of children under 5 due to poverty and malnutrition. Right now, a further 150 million children in the world are malnourished. Children are unable to attend schooling because of their need to work for food for their families and are then exploited through child labour. Malnourished children are frequently drawn to human traffickers and military groups as child soldiers through the promise of food and shelter. In Africa alone, people spend 40 billion hours every year just walking for water. Time spent walking and resulting diseases keep them from school, work and taking care of their families.

We provide a before school breakfast, a healthy, nutritious lunch and an after school supper for every child, every day. trainachild also identifies the children who are most at risk and provides their family with monthly food parcels. The school boasts its own drinking well/ running water which is not only used by the school but also the community providing access to clean safe drinking water. There is as expected in any school clean, safe, sanitised toilets.
